What is Autism?

Autism is the central condition in the group of difficulties known as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) or Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). They are neurodevelopmental disorders; which means they are caused by abnormalities in the way the brain develops and works.

What is ADHD?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a diagnosis given to people who have challenges with inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. For people with ADHD, these challenges usually begin in childhood and for most people they continue as they grow up, though they may change or improve. These challenges will also affect someone in many areas of their life.

What is a neurodevelopmental assessment?

A neurodevelopmental assessment is a comprehensive assessment with a psychiatrist to explore your symptoms. The psychiatrist will also talk to you about your medical history, your development and your family medical history.

At the appointment you will have a psychiatric assessment to explore if ADHD or ASD may underlie your symptoms.

If you have any questions about the assessment process, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit www.neurodiversityassessments.co.uk.
